While fishing in the past was primarily for gathering food, now you can earn enough money to pay for your food and more! The Big Bass Bash tournament has come back to the Lake for their Spring event, and we're excited to see all of the fishermen coming back to the Lake.
Keys to the Lake is proud to host you and your companions for the weekend, as you gear up for this big event, and hopefully bring home the big fish, and the big prize! If this is your first tournament, or even if you've been doing it for years, here are a few ways you can get prepared.

Dress For the Occasion
Just because the weather is forecasting sunny and in the 80's, doesn't mean that you shouldn't prepare for a sudden storm to move through. You'll want to bring all of the essentials with you for this important day, and don't let the weather take you by surprise. Bring a jacket, raincoat, sunscreen, and lightweight fabrics just in case the weather takes you by surprise.
Create a Gameplan
One of the best ways to prepare for
fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks is with "pre-fishing." Get out on the water a few days before the tournament so you can not only scout out some good locations but also get a feel for how the fish are reacting. You can develop a rough outline of how you plan to fish the day of, and while it doesn't have to be specific, it can help you put a framework in place.
Tackle your Tackle

When you're just fishing for fun, it's okay to use your older tackle and dull hooks, but when there's money on the line, you may want to put your gear in order. Make sure all of your gear is organized, your reels are oiled and that you have a fresh line on them. There's nothing worse than spending valuable minutes searching through your boat for that one bait you love.
Develop a Back-Up Plan
If you have been fishing for any amount of time, you probably know that it doesn't always go the way you expect. The weather could change at the drop of a hat, or there could be another fisherman at your favorite spot. If you have a backup plan already in place, you don't have to frantically wonder what to do next.
Timing is Key
Just because your favorite spot works wonderfully early in the morning, doesn't mean you catch anything later in the afternoon. There are certain spots and patterns that work well depending on the time and are that you'll be fishing. If you can figure these out ahead of time, it will save you some headaches during tournament day!
