5 Things To Consider To Get Your Home Ready For Fall

It's officially Autumn, which means it is time to start enjoying all the fun activities the lake has to offer. However, it is also the perfect time to get your home ready for the weather that comes with the cooler seasons. In addition to putting up fall wreaths on your front door and mums on your porch, there are some other things you need to do to prepare your home for the fall season that may have slipped your mind. Luckily your Lake of the Ozarks real estate team has five things to consider to get your home ready for fall:

1. Have Your Furnace Inspected/Maintenance

Fall is the perfect time to have your furnace looked at since it isn't too cold outside. Running it before you need it will let you know it is working. If there are any issues, you can catch them before you actually need your heater. Although your HVAC unit may be working, it is a good idea maintenance done on it at least twice a year. This can help you catch any minor issues before it becomes a problem. The best time to have maintenance done is spring and fall, as the weather is not too hot or too cold.

2. Clean Your Gutters

Although the leaves haven't fallen, they will be soon. Make sure you are ahead of the game and routine check and clean your gutters to avoid the leaves piling up. If debris gets stuck in your gutters, ice can form that prevent the drainage system from working properly. This can cause water to seep into your home, which can lead to some costly issues.

3. Safety First

It is a good idea to change the battery of your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms every 6 months. Spring and fall are a good time to do this task, as you are normally preparing your house for the change of season. If you think your battery is still good, still switch it out and put that battery into something that doesn't relate to safety. Because this is the time we often do a lot of cooking and baking, changing out these alarms will give you peace of mind this upcoming season.

4. Detach Hoses From Faucets

Leaving garden hoses attached to faucets can lead to some serious issues. If left on during the winter months, water could potentially back up in the faucets and in the pipes in your exterior walls. If freezing temperatures hit, that water could freeze causing the pipes and faucet to expand and crack. If you detach the hoses in the early fall, a sudden cold snap won't catch you off guard leading to early pipe freezes.

5. Check For Drafts

Although we may like to leave our windows open during the nice fall days, once the cold weather sinks in we will want our warm air to stay inside. Before this happens, take a walk around your house and check for any areas that feel drafty like windows and doors. Use caulk around the edges to seal it up and use weather strips under doors and windows.

The Keys To A Hunting Trip at the Lake of the Ozarks

In addition to our beautiful landscape, the Lake of the Ozarks has a wide range of different game to hunt. Many people travel to various regions to hunt. The Midwest is a popular place to travel since the type of game to hunt is diverse. The Lake of the Ozarks has gorgeous views and popular game for hunters, which makes it the perfect place to travel for your hunting trip. If you are planning to travel to the area, Keys to the lake can provide you the best vacation rentals at the Lake of the Ozarks. Here are a few things you'll need to know if you are going to hunt in the area.

What You Can Find

During the appropriate hunting seasons, in the diverse terrain and on the waters on the Lake, hunters may pursue deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit, dove, duck, geese and quail. Deer and turkey are both popular species for hunters visiting the Lake area. They both thrive in the nearby wooded area and farmlands, which has allowed for a growing population. Because of the booming deer population, there are plenty of trophy size bucks. Doves are the first to migrate to the Lake area in the fall.

Where To Hunt

At the Lake of the Ozarks, most hunting is down on private land with permission of the land owner. Many times you can find landowners who offer land-lease packages for hunting. In addition to private land, there are also some hunting preserves.

Permits You Need

Before you head out on your hunting trip, make sure you have the appropriate permits. Hunters may obtain the right permits by purchasing them online, over the phone or from various stores in the area. If born after January 1, 1967, Hunter Education is required for purchasing firearms hunting permits. Missouri law also states,"A person commits a crime of unlawful use of weapons if he/she knowingly...possesses or discharges a projectile weapon while intoxicated." Don't endanger yourself or others and sustain from hunting while under the influence of alcohol. For more information on what kind of permits you'll need for your hunting trips, visit the Missouri Department of Conservation's website.
