2014 Shootout Information

The Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Powerboat Race has grown over 26 years from two days of racing to 10 days of non-stop action. The Shootout has become a fourth holiday weekend, boosting business tourism by an estimated $7 million. Hundreds of the world’s top powerboat racers and tens of thousands of powerboat race fans descend on the Lake of the Ozarks for what racers and fans both proclaim to be the best Shootout in the country!
The excitement launches Friday, Aug. 15, and rides waves of fun, adrenaline, and friendship through to the awards celebration on Sunday, Aug. 24. Here we go…

Coors Lite & Miller Lite Mini Shootout Powerboat racing comes in all shapes and sizes at the Shootout. The “5th Annual Mini Shootout” will hit the water Friday-Sunday, Aug. 15-17 at Papa Chubby’s Food & Booze located in Crabtree Cove at the 26 Mile Marker in Sunrise Beach. The Mini Shootout pits racers against each other in remote-control action reaching speeds of over 100 mph in six different classes, with Splash Runs, Bracket Racing, Exhibition Races and Powder Puff Racing. Check out the schedule online for Class Runs, the Bounty Race and Top Gun racing times. Registration and the meet-and-greet begin at 5 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 15. An auction and the Mini Shootout will be held Saturday and Sunday. To add to the excitement, there will be open swimming, live entertainment and an awards ceremony immediately following racing, all at Papa Chubby’s Food & Booze located by land at 820 Serene Valley Drive in Sunrise Beach. For more information email Bill McNeal, Race Coordinator at
Old Kinderhook Presents: The 2014 Benefit Golf Tournament The 2014 Shootout Benefit Golf Tournament at Old Kinderhook Golf Club starts at noon on Sunday, Aug. 17. Golfers will tee off at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start, to support local firefighters and non-profit organizations. The Tom Weiskopf Signature Course is a Par 71 at 6,855 yards, nestled among beautiful valleys at the Lake of the Ozarks. The course challenges the most serious golfer, yet plays on the friendly side. Old Kinderhook is renowned for unsurpassed drama from valleys, waterfalls, hills, trees and water hazards, in a beautiful Lake setting. The elevation changes and breathtaking views thrill at every hole. The exceptional tournament runs $125 per person or $500 per team, which includes a box lunch, golf cart and a plethora of prizes. Registration and lunch start at noon on Sunday. An awards party will immediately follow the tournament. Old Kinderhook Golf Course is located three miles west of Camdenton, on Highway 54. To play, call 573-317-3500, or contact Ed Champion at

Proceeds benefit Kids' Harbor. The excitement begins with dinner and drinks at 5 p.m. with the treasure hunt starting around 6 p.m. Treasure hunters will dig through the sand for hidden chests filled with hundreds of prizes. Shootout race teams will line up with their boats, mingle with fans, sign autographs and pose for pictures. The beer garden will be open, a variety of vendors will provide food, there will be a bounce house for the kids and local entertainers will provide live music in the beer garden. Above all, this is a great opportunity to meet the racers competing in the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. “These guys are great and they love to talk to people who love the sport. They especially like answering the kids’ questions—probably because most of them are family men themselves,” said Ron Duggan, Shootout Organizer and Owner of the Shootout home base, Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill. “You can watch the race online and you can see pictures of the drivers, but when you can meet them, shake their hands, get your picture taken with them - it lets you make a connection that makes it a lot more fun when you’re watching.”
Surdyke Yamaha Shootout PWC Dam Run Dozens of personal watercraft riders will meet at 9 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 21, at Surdyke Yamaha and Marine, located at the 26 Mile Marker, for the Surdyke Yamaha Shootout PWC Dam Run. This all-day run starts at 10 a.m. at Surdyke Yamaha Marine and riding to Truman Dam, with nautical pit stops at Captain Ron’s and other locations along the way. This year, the crew will run to the dam and back to Shorty Pants Lounge on the 21 Mile Marker to unwind for a post-ride party from 5 – 6 p.m. The PWC Dam run is a fun way to experience the pristine shoreline of the upper Mile Markers of the Lake of the Ozarks without fretting about water depths. Registration is $150 and includes a paid registration in the PWC portion of the Shootout races on Saturday, Aug. 23. Proceeds benefit Shootout charities. For more information contact Greg Surdyke at 573-348-9283.
First National Bank Make-a-Wish Powerboat Rides Nothing warms the heart like a child’s smile. And when it comes from a child with a life-threatening illness, the respite is near divine. This event gives hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions. “Big-hearted race boat drivers and volunteers donate their boats and time to give kids with serious illnesses and their families the ride of a lifetime,” event organizer Tiffany Riemann said. For more information, or to participate in the Make-a-Wish Powerboat Rides event, call Riemann at 573-368-1177.

Waves and Wheels Stereo Shootout Some have a need for speed, others want to look and sound good doing it. Waves and Wheels Marine Audio Stereo Shootout is made for boaters who like to thump and reverberate. The competition is based on Overall Sound, Full Sound, Great Highs, Mids and Lows, and Most Impressive Output. Stereo Shootout judges use meters to read the decibels. The prize for the Most Creative is judged on appearance, installation quality and the overall package. First, second and third place winners receive a plaque along with prizes. “There is a great crowd that comes out to see amazing boats and hear great music while hanging out on the dock with friends,” Waves and Wheels Owner/System and Product Designer Justin Wagner said. Some of the boats, designed by the likes of MTI and Nor-Tech, are worth more than $1 million. The price of the sound systems can range from $2,500 to $200,000. Happy New Year!

With the new year on our horizon, we pause to look back, cherishing what was good, and then pause to look forward, cheerleading what we hope will be great.

When flipping through the calendar, I focus most on gratefulness. I am thankful for experiences that fill my heart and thrill my mind and opportunities to gracefully touch others’ lives particularly when traveling.  We look forward to this year and the opportunity to work with you in our business.
