GameThe Midwest is home to a wide variety of game. During the appropriate seasons, you may pursue deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit, dove, duck, geese and quail in the surrounding terrain and on the waters. The most popular species to be hunted at the Lake are the white tail deer, and the turkey. We have a growing population of both species, and they thrive in the wooded areas and farmlands. The fall hunting season is best for plucking a hen or jake from a flock of birds in the woods or fields. Our booming deer population includes plenty of trophy-size bucks. Areas with open timber and scrub oak are ideal hunting areas to bag the deer in both bow and firearms season.
LocationMost of the hunting at the Lake happens on private land with permission from the landowner. There are a few hunting preserves available around the area for you to utilize. As well, some land owners make their land available for land-lease packages for the specific use of hunting.
PermitsHunting permits can be purchased online, or in some local stores. You can get all of the information on the Missouri Conservation Department's website. Hunter education is required of all people wanting to purchase firearms hunting permits if they're born after January 1st, 1967. Missouri law also states that "A person who commits a crime of unlawful use of weapons if he/she knowingly possesses or discharges a projectile weapon while intoxicated." Be safe while you're out, and don't endanger others or yourself by hunting while under the influence of alcohol.
